The Stelvio Pass (Italian: Passo dello Stelvio; German: Stilfser Joch) is a mountain pass in northern Italy, at an elevation of 2,757 m (9,045 ft) above sea level.
This week, we get awe-inspiring views of icy Great Lakes and other remarkable water bodies, powerful storms, a lava field the size of Manhattan -- and the most polluted place on Earth.
Pictured above is the Stelvio Pass, the highest paved roadway in the Eastern Alps with an elevation of 9,045 feet (2,757 meters). Only accessible in the summer months (June-September), the road and its 75 hairpin turns are sometimes scaled during the famous Giro d’Italia cycling race.
