Van Gogh Museum

The brand-new Van Gogh Museum was a strikingly modern building when it opened in 1973. The building occupies a special place in the history of Dutch architecture, being the final design of Gerrit Rietveld, a famous Dutch designer and architect. The architect’s vision of light and space was both progressive and controversial.

The Van Gogh Museum is unique in terms of its devotion to both the work of a single artist and the collection of art that Vincent and his brother Theo assembled from their contemporaries.
