Old London Bridge was the longest inhabited bridge in Europe.
It was completed in 1209 and stood for over 600 years. Considered a wonder of the world, it had 138 shops, houses, churches & gatehouses built on it!

This year is the 125th anniversary of Tower Bridge. At the time the bridge was built London was one of the world’s busiest trading ports, handling goods from all corners of the British Empire and beyond. These pen-and-ink drawings by Sir Horace Jones are of his design for Tower Bridge and show the bridge with both the bascules open for the passage of ships and closed for the passage of road traffic.

‘Tower Bridge’ charts the story of one of Britain’s most iconic landmarks, from the earliest plans for a river crossing on this site, through the complex evolution of its development. The book features rare archival images, a wealth of original drawings (some of which have never been published) and specially commissioned photographs: https://thamesandhudson.com/tower-bridge-history-engineeri…/
