華盛頓首都規劃師 ：皮爾‧查爾斯‧殷范提〈Pierre-Charles L'Enfant〉

你知道白宮、華盛頓紀念碑在哪裡嗎？沒錯，它們就位於美國首都。在1790年的7月16日，國會宣佈華盛頓哥倫比亞特區是美國首都的永久所在地。喬治‧華盛頓總統授命法籍工程師皮爾‧查爾斯‧殷范提〈Pierre-Charles L'Enfant〉負責規劃。殷范提設計了寬廣的道路，以及眾多開放式的空間。他把首都的街道規劃成北、南、東、西的格子狀。在殷范提的細心規劃下，現在當你站在美國國會大廈的前方，你可以清楚看到華盛頓紀念碑 (Washington Monument) 與林肯紀念堂 (Lincoln Memorial) 。當你看到自己首都的這些美景時，都應該要感謝殷范提呢！‪#‎TodayinHistory‬

Where are the White House, the Capitol, and the Washington Monument? Just where they should be – in the capital of the United States. On July 16, 1790, Congress declared the city of Washington in the District of Columbia, the permanent capital of the United States. President George Washington commissioned French engineer Pierre-Charles L'Enfant to create a plan for the city. L'Enfant designed wide avenues and open spaces for the capital. The streets of the capital were oriented in a north, south, east, and west grid pattern. Because of L'Enfant's careful planning, when you stand on the steps of the U.S. Capitol today you can look down the mall and see all the way to the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
