The beautiful Merton college is one of Oxford's very oldest, dating from 1264. In fact, it's recently celebrated its 750th anniversary, making it only 50 years younger than the Magna Carta!
A number of notable poets and authors are Merton alumni, including J R R Tolkien, T S Eliot, as well as Sir Thomas Bodley, who founded our Bodleian Libraries in 1602.
