Enjoy a fun, free family day out at the Maslenitsa Russian folk festival in Trafalgar Square.
Marking the end of winter, Maslenitsa combines a Russian Orthodox religious celebration with an older pagan festival welcoming the arrival of spring.
During the festival, Trafalgar Square is transformed into a large entertainment zone with live music, children’s shows and dancing. Watch as folk musicians and entertainers perform traditional Russian songs and dances, with plenty of audience interaction.
Sample delicious Russian food, such as beef stroganoff, borscht (beetroot soup) and pelmeni (dumplings), from the stalls set up on Trafalgar Square.

據報導，俄羅斯演員當天為倫敦民眾表演了各種文藝演出。當天，包括倫敦市政府代表，文化、新聞與體育委員會主席約翰•威基戈堅爾在內的官方代表出席了活動，並向公眾致詞。
此次“謝肉節”活動是在英國與俄羅斯互辦兩國文化年框架內進行的，旨在加強兩國間聯繫。在特拉法加廣場舉行的文藝演出自2月24日開始，至3月2日結束。
據介紹，此次活動的一個亮點是，在殘奧會的誕生地、英國斯托克-曼德維爾市被點燃的殘奧會火種於2日抵達了特拉法加廣場。火種之後將被送往俄羅斯索契，並於3月7日，在冬季殘奧會開幕時，與來自俄羅斯其它城市的火種匯聚成殘奧會火炬。
“謝肉節”是俄羅斯的一個古老的群眾節日，意在迎春送冬，它源於多神教，在古羅斯接受基督教後保留至今。東正教教會把“謝肉節”列為教會節日之列。
