Walden Pond

    The title page from the first edition of Henry David Thoreau’s book Walden: or, Life in the Woods, a classic account of life in a simple one-room cabin in New England. Thoreau spent two years ‘in the woods, a mile from any neighbor, in a house which I had built myself, on the shore of Walden Pond’ near Concord, Massachusetts.

當年讀梭羅的《湖濱散記》，只顧從書裡的希臘神話、生態觀察、恬淡生活、歷史傳說以及沁潤清涼、處處珠璣的字句中找尋慰藉和療癒，等到多年後才知，梭羅32歲先出版《公民不服從》，五年後才發行《湖濱散記》，而且《湖濱散記》問世時他同時發表抨擊蓄奴政策的《麻薩諸塞州奴隸制》。
梭羅說：「一個人如不能追隨同伴的腳步，或許是因為他聽到不同的鼓聲，就讓他跟隨自己所聽到的音樂繼續前進吧，不管有多遠。」這話鼓勵人們勇於獨立思考，但深層含意則指正直之人不應流俗忍耐不公義之事...
