Where to visit? First of all, you need to know where in Japan you will be travelling.
If you are in Tokyo, your only choice is to visit “The Imperial Palace”.
If you are in Kyoto, you can choose between four palace facilities.
Outside of Tokyo and Kyoto, there are no palaces.
If you are in Tokyo, your only choice is to visit “The Imperial Palace”.
If you are in Kyoto, you can choose between four palace facilities.

Here’s a little help choosing between the four places in Kyoto.
The best choice is the “Kyoto Imperial Palace”; this is the centre of Japanese history and has a dedicated English tour, while the other three tours provide English recordings.
However, if gardens are your passion, you are better off choosing the “Sento Imperial Palace” or the “Katsura Imperial Villa”.
The former is best visited in May, while the latter is beautiful in autumn.
Meanwhile, the “Shugaku-in Imperial Villa” is located in the mountains, with a very different atmosphere.
I suggest that you look at the introductory videos on the various palaces and villas – these are not only informative, but give you an idea of what you will be seeing.

You will also need to inform the agency how many people will be attending.
All tours are by reservations-only and changes cannot be made later.
